Joel's Rant
Have
we just dodged a bullet, or
not? |
|
It
would seem that America dodged a bullet a few days
ago when Scott Brown won the Senate seat in the
People's Republic of Massachusetts. What
seemed like a runaway train into socialism and
worse all of a sudden seemed to lose steam and
even come noisily to a temporary halt. Good for
us, good for our children and good for the people
of the United States.
But the
war's not over, not by a long shot. Actually
it's just about to begin and here's my greatest
fear going forward. It's not
the liberals and the democrats and the Marxists
and their supporters in the Obama administration
and in Congress I worry about. It's the
Republicans.
It's
the Republicans that give Democrats all the power
to do whatever they want to this great and
wonderful country. More
specifically, its "compromising Republicans" that
provide to our political enemies their
strength.
What does that
mean?
Tell me
this isn't as scenario that scares the daylights
out of you.
Here comes the Democrats calling for not
totally scraping the entire reform bill, but
rather starting from "those areas where both
Democrats and Republicans agree". Are there
such areas?
I don't think so, but will Republicans now
feel the need to "prove" they are not "the party
of no" by compromising on things they earlier
thought unacceptable? I'm
worried about that.
I heard
the other night that Barack Obama is planning on
using next week's State of the Union address to
suggest that there be a bipartisan commission to
study taxes and spending and come up with a plan
to bring the nation's fiscal house in order. Will
Republicans on that so-called commission stand by
their earlier agenda of tax cuts and spending cuts
or will they "compromise" away those standards and
agree to something else, something stupid and
sinister in an effort to not appear to be part of
the "party of no"? I'm
worried about that.
It's
Republicans "compromising" that gives Democrats
strength and at this point actually saves
Democrats and their agenda. If Barack
Obama can get Republicans to compromise he's
saved; he's saved from himself, for crying out
loud.
So
here's the deal. This is
not a time for compromise. This is a
time for Conservatism. This is a
time to stand by our standards. People
will rally to Republicans that are being
conservative. Even in
the election of 2008, John McCain actually had
pulled ahead of Barack Obama in early September
when he took Sarah Palin as his running mate and
became, momentarily at least, the standard bearer
of the conservative movement. He lost it
all only when he tried to act like a liberal by
attempting to rally liberals and democrats to his
ill fated decisions regarding the fiscal
crisis.
Conservatism
wins all the time. Liberty,
limited government, personal property, personal
responsibility and supporting the Founders version
of the Constitution is what will keep this country
great.
So
where do we start measuring the resolve of the
Republicans?
We start with health care reform. I'm
hoping Republicans can show they deserve our
support by not agreeing to find common ground
within the health bill as it exists, but rather
rejecting it all and instead agree to support only
a bill that provides for the
following:
·
Allow
for purchasing insurance across state
lines
·
Rescind
state and federal coverage mandates so users can
buy the coverage they need, not what government
requires
·
Provide
for meaningful tort reform that would reduce
medical costs an estimated $200 billion each year
in defensive
medicine
·
Exclude
illegal immigrants from any government provided
health insurance
·
Treat
employer and individual purchase of health
insurance the same in the income tax
code
·
Allow
for small groups to form so they can buy insurance
like large
employers
·
Allow
for high deductible catastrophic coverage
policies
·
Encourage
medical providers to itemize charges so users can
make informed medical procedure
choices
·
Rescind
"guaranteed coverage"............if you don't buy
insurance and do not meet requirements for
government insurance you don't have
insurance......otherwise it's just wealth
redistribution
·
Open
new high risk insurance pools for those that have
preexisting
conditions
If
Republicans cave, they've lost
me.
And
that's all there is to
it. |

to the people of Maryland, the Land of the Free,
and the Home of the Brave.
"Your desire to
live in the Land of the Free is as natural
as breathing. But the more
you look around and take stock, you see your
freedoms under attack and your dreams
fading away, while your government demands more
and more of your time and money, only to
recklessly waste precious tax dollars on misguided
bailouts and irresponsible foreign aid. Your very
own government is trampling on your rights as
American citizens as it grovels before foreign
powers, instead of putting the American citizen
first." (quote from: http://www.rutledgeforussenate.com/)

terrific candidate.

Another Great Reason to get
Involved!! |
11 CLEAR
SIGNS THAT THE U.S. ECONOMY IS HEADED
IN THE WRONG
DIRECTION!
The
vast majority of the talking heads on television
are still speaking of the current economic
collapse as if it is a temporary "recession" that
will soon be over. So far, the vast majority
of the American people seem to believe this as
well, although for many Americans there is a very
deep gnawing in the pit of their stomachs that is
telling them that there is something very,
very wrong this time around. The truth
is that the foundations of the U.S. economy
have been destroyed by an orgy of government,
corporate and individual debt that has gone on for
decades. It was the greatest party in the
history of the world, but now the party is
over. The following are 11 signs from just
this past month that show that the U.S.
economy is headed into the toilet and will
not be recovering....
#1)
When even Wal-Mart
is closing stores you know things
are bad. Wal-Mart announced on Monday
that it
will close 10 money-losing Sam's Club
stores
and will cut 1,500 jobs in order to reduce
costs. So if even Wal-Mart has to shut down
stores, what chance do other retailers
have?
#2)
Americans
are going broke at a staggering
pace. 1.41 million Americans filed for
personal bankruptcy in 2009 - a 32
percent increase over 2008.
#3)
American
workers are working harder than ever and yet
making less. After adjusting
for inflation, pay for production and
non-supervisory workers (80 percent of the
private workforce) is 9%
lower than it was in 1973.
But those Americans
who do still have jobs are the fortunate
ones.
#4)
Unemployment
is absolutely exploding all over the United
States. Minority groups have
been hit particularly hard. For example,
unemployment on many U.S. Indian reservations
is over 80
percent.
#5)
Unfortunately the employment
situation is showing no signs of turning
around. December
was
actually the worst month for U..S.
unemployment
since the so-called "Great Recession" began.
#6)
So just
how bad are things when compared to past
recessions? During the
2001 recession, the U.S. economy lost 2% of its
jobs and it took four years to get them back. This
time the U.S. economy has
lost
more than 5% of its
jobs
and there is no sign that the bleeding of jobs
will stop any time soon.
#7)
Can you imagine trying to get your first job in
this economic climate? Our young
men and women either can't get work or have given
up on work altogether. The
percentage of Americans 16 to 24 who have
jobs is
13 percent lower than ten years
ago.
#8)
So
where did all the jobs go?
Over the past few decades we have allowed the
corporate
giants to ship mountains of American jobs
overseas, and there are
signs
that this trend is only going to get
worse. In fact,
Princeton University economist Alan S.
Blinder estimates that 22% to 29% of all
current U.S. jobs will be
offshorable within two
decades.
So get
ready for even more of our jobs to be shipped off
to Mexico,
China and India.
#9)
All of these job losses are leading
to defaults on mortgages.
Over the past couple of years we have seen the
American Dream in reverse. According
to a report that was just released,
delinquent home loans at government-controlled
mortgage finance giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac
surged 20
percent from July through
September.
#10)
But that is nothing compared to what is
coming. A massive "second wave" of
mortgage defaults is getting ready to hit the U.S.
economy starting in 2010. In fact, this
"second wave" is so frightening that even 60 Minutes is
reporting on
it.
#11)
Meanwhile, the Federal Reserve has announced that
it made a record
profit of $46.1 billion
in 2009. Apparently during this
economic crisis it is a very good time
to be a bankster.

"Culture Crisis" |
Please
meet Dr. Starner Jones from Mississippi
[see
photo below].
His short 2-paragraph letter
to the White House accurately puts the blame on a
"Culture Crisis" instead of a "Health Care Crisis"
It's worth a quick
read:

Starner Jones,
MD
I am a
seventh generation Mississippian and wanted to
come back here after going somewhere else for
college and medical school. My
extracurricular interests are golf, hunting,
fishing and college football.
Dear
Sirs:
During my last night's shift
in the ER, I had the pleasure of evaluating a
patient with an expensive shiny gold tooth,
multiple elaborate expensive tattoos, a very
expensive brand of tennis shoes and a new cellular
telephone equipped with her favorite R&B tune
for a ringtone.. Glancing over the chart, one
could not help noticing her payer status: Medicaid. She smokes more than one costly pack
of cigarettes every day and somehow still has
money to buy beer. And our Congress expects me to
pay for this woman's health care?
Our nation's health
care crisis is not a shortage of quality
hospitals, doctors or nurses. It is a crisis
of culture a culture in which it is perfectly
acceptable to spend money on vices while refusing
to take care of one's self or heaven forbid, purchase health
insurance. A culture that thinks "I can do
whatever I want to because someone else will
always take care of me". Life is really not that hard. Most
of us reap what we sow!

A Must View "YouTube"
Video |
"A Parody Video"
The Day Obamacare died is a video
that is gaining popularity in the wake of the
election of Scott Brown. The Day Obamacare died is
sung to the popular tune "American Pie", which
features the lyrics "The Day the Music Died." The
reasoning behind the video is that Brown is
against healthcare reform, and his election makes
it that much more difficult for Democrats to push
healthcare reform through Congress.
