ANGRY ELEPHANTJoel's Rant

A Teachable Moment!

There really has to be some word or phrase that better describes the media treatment of conservatives and Republicans versus that provided to liberals and Democrats than to merely say there's a "double standard."  With the difference in media treatment being so perverse, there has to be something that articulates the comparison more strongly, don't you think?

Statements or actions that would get a Republican scared for life is laughed off as just one of things if similarly done by a Democrat.

Take the recent controversy involving Senator Harry Reid, certainly the most important Democrat in the Senate and, because of his position as the Senate majority leader, is arguably the second or third most powerful politician in the United States.  Now he clearly makes what most people would think is a derogatory, some might think even racist, statement about not only blacks that he says need to fit a certain profile to be suitable for high elected office, but the voting American population in general that would judge someone otherwise fit to serve as not electable if they're "too black" or "have a black inflection" or something similarly offensive.  He gets away by offering the usual perfunctory apology and the organization "Blacks in Support of Harry Reid" is right away planning rally's all across the nation.  It's really quite astounding.  And blacks, liberals, Democrats and the mainstream media are apparently fine with that.

The experience of Republican Senator Trent Lott of course is another story.  Coincidentally, he was also the Senate majority leader and could similarly be considered perhaps one of the most powerful politicians in America at the time.  Everyone knows the story of how he told an audience attending the 100th birthday party, mind you, of Strom Thurmond, that had Thurmond been elected president in 1948 (paraphrasing) ".....all our troubles would not exist today".  Of course he was scandalized and forced to resign his powerful position and eventually he left the Senate.  Now if any of Lott's detractors wanted to be honest and honorable, and taken even one moment to examine what he said, they of course would have seen that Lott was merely trying to be polite and supportive in what was realistically one of Thurmond's final days on planet earth.  Instead, Lott's treatment, even after providing the usual perfunctory apologies just like Harry Reid did, was really quite disgusting.  But once again blacks, liberals, Democrats and the mainstream media were apparently fine with that.

Why is that exactly?  Why are democrats fine with that?  What is it about the double standard that the left finds not only compelling but even satisfying?  Is it a pathology?  Who actually wins in that situation?

To borrow a phrase from that teacher of all teachers, lecturer of all lecturers Barack Obama, here's another "teachable moment".  It came in the final debate between Republican Scott Brown and Democrat Martha Coakley, both vying for the Senate seat left vacant by the death of Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts.  By the way, that's a special election for Senate that is taking place on January 19th, not in November like all the rest who are up for reelection.

The moderator, well known democrat apologist David Gergen, after officiating for about an hour, ended the debate by asking each candidate two final questions.  Now what makes this even more interesting is that instead of this race being an expected blowout in favor of the Democrat in possibly the most bluest of blue states in the nation, some polls actually have Scott Brown leading by one or two points.  And this has democrats literally freaking out, for crying out loud.

So Gergen asks Scott Brown, the Republican, two really tough questions that put him clearly on the spot; one was about Roe v. Wade and the other was about Global Warming and climate change.

Gergen then has the unmitigated nerve and with a straight face to ask Martha Coakley, the Democrat, if she thought it was right to have three people in her debate (which included the the third party candidate) and if she had any second thoughts on how the campaign unfolded.

Is this unbelievable?  Is there no shame?  It was like a "Saturday Night Live" skit literally come alive!  Why didn't Gergen ask her what her favorite color was, or maybe if she liked making right turns more than left turns, or if she enjoyed her summer vacation.  Could he have asked anything easier?

So the audience is left with their last images of the candidates, one struggling to answer some of the most complex and daunting questions of our time and probably have trouble as one would expect, and the other smiling and laughing and being totally personable.  Hmmm, that last image is generally the one that sticks best, no?  So what was the reason for picking those exact questions I wonder?

This is not unlike Democrats charging Alaska Senator Ted Stevens with corruption charges just before the 2008 elections, having him lose his seat and then the Justice Department dropping the charges because of Democrat malfeasance.  It's also not unlike Minnesota Senator Al Franken winning election by winning a recount in districts that had more votes than registered voters.

So what did we learn in this episode?  What we learned is that this is what Democrats and liberals do...............and it's just plain wrong!  And there you have it.

Thursday, January 28th
HCRC's 1st Club Meeting for 2010 with our Special Guest, Jim Rutledge
mmmJim Rutledge, Candidate for U.S. Senate is our first guest speaker for the year.  He is dedicated to the people of Maryland, the Land of the Free, and the Home of the Brave.
"Your desire to live in the Land of the Free is as natural as breathing. But the more you look around and take stock, you see your freedoms under attack and your dreams fading away, while your government demands more and more of your time and money, only to recklessly waste precious tax dollars on misguided bailouts and irresponsible foreign aid. Your very own government is trampling on your rights as American citizens as it grovels before foreign powers, instead of putting the American citizen first." (quote from: http://www.rutledgeforussenate.com/)
Join us for an exciting evening and learn more about this terrific candidate.

Don't forget, Club elections for the New Board will also be this evening.  Currently there are 4 available positions on the Board and there is one person running for each position (see below).  Nominations for additional candidates are still open and can be provided to Mark Jascewsky onesock67@hotmail.com    Please come on out that night to support your favorite candidates with your vote!

Just a reminder, your membership fees are due to be renewed in January and we are offering some terrific packages that include the new club shirts.  Thank you so much for your support of this great club.  Only paid members are permitted to cast a vote for their favorite candidates.
A Very Successful 1st Rally!!

mm

Protestors of spend & tax legislators gathered Wednesday night onto a packed Lawyer's Mall following the opening of the 2010 session of the Maryland legislature.  The rally featured an enthusiastic group of Patriots who were all for lower taxes, ending massive spending, and the rejection of federal funding dressed up as viable "stimulus".  Many folks also made clear their opinion on the hopeful return of the former Governor, Robert Ehrlich, back to office.

 mm

The "MARCH ON ANNAPOLIS" took even the most optimistic by surprise.  The participating clubs were hoping for 500 to 1,000 attendees, but the buses just kept coming in and the streets were over-flowing with the official estimates between 2,500 and 3,000 in attendance. Additionally at the rally were complimentary delicious hot coffee, terrific subs, hand warmers, and even flash lights.  All of this, as well as the transportation, was orchestrated by "American's For Prosperity", and generously paid for, in part, by The Andy Harris Campaign.

wwmm

While there I witnessed a conversation between two Senators from opposite sides of the aisle.  The Republican Senator remarked about the size of the crowd (with a bit a pride I might add), and the other Senator remarked that he did not realize there were so many concerned citizens.

ddnn

All of the speakers were very motivating and it was inspirational to see so many people out on a winter's evening rallying against the out-of-control spending that is plaguing, not only our state but, the entire country.

mmmm

The two speakers that seemed to connect best with the sentiments of the crowd were Dave Wallace, from Restore America's Mission, and Charles Loller, candidate for Congress, who both received a rousing response.

mmmm

Jim Rutledge, an unscheduled speaker, held the attention of the crowd at the opposite side of the stage during a break between speakers and it was obvious to everyone that even without the assistance of a microphone, Jim was still captivating many of the folk's attention. and what he had to say was certainly resonating with the crowd!

mm

"Wednesday night, I was honored to stand together once again with freedom-loving patriots from across Maryland at the Annapolis Tea Party. The participation of so many families, especially on a school night in the freezing cold, was inspiring. A highlight for me was encouraging young citizens to exercise boldly our precious Constitutional rights of freedom of speech and freedom of assembly, upon which all of our liberties depend.  We The People will be heard, and we will not be silenced or censored."

By James Simpson

(Reprinted from the AmericanThinker.com)

It is time to cast aside all remaining doubt. President Obama is not trying to lead America forward to recovery, prosperity and strength, quite the opposite in fact.

In September of last year, American Thinker published my article, Barack Obama and the Strategy of Manufactured Crisis. Part of a series, it connected then-presidential candidate Barack Obama to individuals and organizations practicing a malevolent strategy for destroying our economy and our system of government. Since then, the story of that strategy has found its way across the blogosphere, onto the airwaves of radio stations across the country, the Glenn Beck television show, Bill O'Reilly, and now Mark Levin.

The methodology is known as the Cloward-Piven Strategy, and we can all be grateful to David Horowitz and his 'Discover the Networks' for originally exposing and explaining it to us. He describes it as: The strategy of forcing political change through orchestrated crisis. The "Cloward-Piven Strategy" seeks to hasten the fall of capitalism by overloading the government bureaucracy with a flood of impossible demands, thus pushing society into crisis and economic collapse.

Richard Cloward and Frances Fox Piven were two lifelong members of Democratic Socialists of America who taught sociology at Columbia University (Piven later went on to City University of New York). In a May 1966 Nation magazine article titled "The Weight of the Poor," they outlined their strategy, proposing to use grassroots radical organizations to push ever more strident demands for public services at all levels of government.

The result, they predicted, would be "a profound financial and political crisis" that would unleash "powerful forces ... For major economic reform at the national level."

They implemented the strategy by creating a succession of radical organizations, most notable among them the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), with the help of veteran organizer Wade Rathke. Their crowning achievement was the "Motor Voter" act, signed into law by Bill Clinton in 1993 with Cloward and Piven standing behind him.

As we now know, ACORN was one of the chief drivers of high-risk mortgage lending that eventually led to the financial crisis. But the Motor Voter law was another component of the strategy. It created vast vulnerabilities in our electoral system, which ACORN then exploited.

ACORN's voter registration scandals throughout the U. S. are predictable fallout.

The Motor Voter law has also been used to open another vulnerable area in the system: the registration of vast numbers of illegal aliens, who then reliably vote Democrat. Herein lies the real reason Democrats are so anxious for open borders, security be damned.

It should be clear to anyone with a mind and two eyes that this president and this Congress do not have our interests at heart. They are implementing this strategy on an unprecedented scale by flooding America with a tidal wave of poisonous initiatives, orders, regulations, and laws. As Rahm Emmanuel said, "A crisis is a terrible thing to waste."

The real goal of "health care" legislation, the real goal of "cap-and-trade," and the real goal of the "stimulus" is to rip the guts out of our private economy and transfer wide swaths of it over to the government to control. Do not be deluded by the propaganda. These initiatives are vehicles for change. They are not goals in and of themselves except in their ability to deliver power. They will make matters much worse, for that is their design.
This time, in addition to overwhelming the government with demands for services, Obama and the Democrats are overwhelming political opposition to their plans with a flood of apocalyptic legislation. Their ultimate goal is to leave us so discouraged, demoralized, and exhausted that we throw our hands up in defeat. As Barney Frank said, "the middle class will be too distracted to fight."

These people are our enemies. They don't use guns, yet, but they are just as dangerous, determined, and duplicitous as the communists we faced in the Cold War, Korea, Vietnam, and bush wars across the globe, and the Nazis we faced in World War II.

It is time we fully internalized and digested this fact, with all its ugly ramifications. These people have violated countless laws and could be prosecuted, had we the political power. Not only are their policies unconstitutional, but deliberately so -- the goal being to make the Constitution irrelevant. Their spending is off the charts and will drive us into hyperinflation, but it could be rescinded, had we the political power. These policies are toxic, but they could be stopped and reversed, had we the political power. Their ideologies are poisonous, but they could be exposed for what they are, with long jail sentences as an object lesson, had we the political power.

Every single citizen who cares about this country should be spending every minute of his or her spare time lobbying, organizing, writing, and planning. Fight every initiative they launch. It is all destructive. If we are to root out this evil, it is critical that in 2010 we elect competent, principled leaders willing to defend our Constitution and our country. Otherwise, the malevolent cabal that occupies the government today will become too entrenched.

After that, all bets are off.

This takes literally 2 clicks to complete.   Please vote on this gun issue question with USA Today.  It will only take a few seconds of your time.   Then pass the link on to all the pro gun folks you know.   Hopefully these results will be published later this month. This upcoming year will become critical for gun owners with the Supreme Court's accepting the District of Columbia case against the right for individuals to bear arms.

Here's what you need to do:

First
- vote on this one.

Second
- launch it to other folks and ask THEM to vote - then we will see if the results get published.

The Question is:
"Does the Second Amendment give individuals the right to bear arms?"

Click on the link below and PLEASE vote Yes!
